CLAY PIGEON SHOOT.

STRATFORD GUN CLUB. Under the auspices of the Stratford Gun Club a clay pigeon shoot was held on Mr. J. Campbell’s paddock on the Rawhitiroa Road, on Thursday, when. there was a good attendance of gunmen and an excellent afternoon's sport was enjoyed. The shooting was not up to ths usual standard, due probably to the brilliant light and a fast trap Mr. J. McKayscored a popular win in a first-miss-out competition, all present enjoying the defeat of some of the veterans by Mr. McKay, who was shooting in the novice events. The results of the matches were as follows: Ballastite Cup and sweepstake handicap: S. Coleman (handicap. 18 yds.), 10 birds. 1; F. Casey (16 yds.), 9 birds, 2. Eight competed. Novice shoot, 6 birds; all off ten yards: Dudley, Barker and Campbell tied with 4 birds each. They divided the stake, and in the shoot-off Barker secured the gold medal presented by Mr. J. Petrie, of Stratford. Twelve-bird sweepstake, handicap: Green (1G yards), 7 birds, 1; F. I. Tuke, Whittle and Jenkins tied for second with 6 birds each, and in the shoot-off Whittle won. First miss out: All went out in the first shot, except Whittle, Tuke and Coleman, and Whittle was the only one to survive the second round. First miss out: J. McKay defeated S. D. Coleman in the fourth round, securing a popular win.—Argus.
