TUNNEL IN A PRISON. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Aug. 31, 10.30 p.m. London, Aug. 31. Disciplinary measures have been taken with the irregulars interned in Maryborough prison, owing to the discovery of a tunnel prepared for escape. Five prisoners were wounded during the disturbances. PROTECTION BY TROOPS WANTED. Received Aug. 31, 5.5 p.m. London, Aug. 31. A majority of the householders in Pettigo and Grovehill, which suffered grievously during the Irish rebel invasion, have sent a memorial to Mr. Lloyd George asking him to permit British troops to remain, the people fearing to be again at the mercy of the rebels.
