CUSTOMS REVENUE.

SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE LAST MONTH. A healthy indication of the fact that trade at the port of New Plymouth is brisk is provided by the Customs revenue during the past month, when the dues collected were £2226 7s lOd in excess of the revenue for the correap<"' ling month of last year. The beer '■’ty last month was three times greater that collected in August, 1921, but against this is the fact that beer duty is now practically double what it was last year.

Comparative details are:— August, 1922. August, 1921. £ a. d. £ Customs revenue 5771 Beer duty 261 s. d 1 6 2 4 3544 86 13 8 12 0 Totals 6032 3 10 3’631 5 8
