REGULATING LOTTERIES.
A DRASTIC PROPOSAL By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.—Copyright. Sydney. August 30. A new Bill which the Government is introducing to regulate lotteries and art unions contains drastic provisions for the safeguarding of th? public. Any newspapers publishing th? rpsults of Tattersall’s sweeps, or Golden Caskets, or advertisements, or any information relating to lotteries outeide New South Wales will be liable to a fine of £2OO. The regulations also provide against indiscriminate raffles and art unions, which of late years have become so rampant. and against the misuse of any funds raised by such function-. Another important amendment makes the penalties summarily recoverable in the Police Court instead of through the Supreme Court as previously.
