I in the first Ser of the doubles Tilden anc I Richards won the first game on Tilden’s ser- ' vice Each won alternately to the sixth, and j the Australians then took three ir succession In rhe second set the home pair started oft with three wins Both Tilden and Pattersor | indulged in a speedy service and sharp returns. Richards’ cross-court placing shots, however proved so effective that the Australians only secured one game. In the next set the games went alternately to each side up to the sixth. Tilden’s speed and accuracy then accounted for two more, and Wood, appearing to tire, the Americans took the last game and set. 11l the fourth set tag Americans appeared tc completely outplay their opponents. Patterson became wild and erratic and Wood tircc as no rest period had been agreed upon between the third and fourth sets, the Australians being anxious to catch the early train in preparation for the Davis Cup. They won four games, but the Americans took the rest and the match. Received Aug. .30, 8.30 p.m. New York. Aug. 29.
