CHARGE OF BRIBERY.
ECHO OF QUEENSLAND POLITICS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 29, 10.15 p.m. Brisbane, August 29. The case was continued in which two journalists, John Sleeman and Edward Connolly, are charged with having attempted to bribe F. Brennan to vote against his party on the censure motion. Continuing his evidence, Brennan said he had previously discussed politics with Connolly, but the latter knew witness would not join a coalition, which it was supposed Mr. Theodore (the Premier) was to lead. Witness decided at the outset to trap Connolly, because he believed the Opposition’s principals—the capitalists—were behind him, and witness wanted to expose the principals Brennan added that the arrangements regarding the intervention of detectives were made by Mr. Theodore.
