An international amateur golf tourney has begun for the Walker Cun with a Scotch foursome in the morning and afternoon rounds of 36 holes, and will be completed to-monow with singles. In to-day’s morning round Ouimet and Guildford (America) defeated Tolley and Darwin (Britain) 4 up and 3: Jones and Sweetzer (America) defeated Torrence and Hooman (Britain) 7 up and 6; Wethered and Aylmer (Britain) defeated Evans and Gardner (America) 3 up and 2>; Founes and Marston (America) defeated Caven and Mackenzie (Britain) In the afternoon round Aylmer and Wethered defeated and Gardner 3 up: Ouimet and! Guildford defeated Tolley and Darwin 8 up and 7 : Jones and Sweetzer defeated' Hooman and Torrence 3 up and 2; Founes and Marston defeated Caven and Mackenzie a up and 1. Captain Harris, of the British team, is dangerously ill with throat trouble. He is in hospital, and an operation may be necessary. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. LADIES’ MATCHES. The final of the ladies’ junior championship was plaved at Wlaiwakaiho yesterday, when Mrs. MacDlarmid beat Miss Winfield 7 up and 5. The final of the senior championship will be played next Tuesday, when Miss Gavin meets Miss Thomson. A bogey match was played yesterday afternoon, the best scores being: Mrs. Waters 1 down. Miss Johns 1 down. Miss Morton 2 down. Miss Bremer 3 down, Mrs. Johns 4 Next week there will be a medal match for a silver button. Entries close on Saturday. NEW PLYMOUTH v. STRATFORD It. is proposed to send a team to play the Stratford Club at Stratford on Thursday, September 7. Members wishing to make the trip should advise a member of the match committee. The team will leave New Plymouth by car about midday.
