ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A BODY IDENTIFIED. By Telegraph.—-Fress Association. Auckland, August 28. The body found in the harbor has been identified as Herbert Gandy, a returned soldier with no relatives in New Zealand. He was last seen alive in his lodgings two hours before the body was discovered. MAN STRUCK BY TRAM-CAR. Auckland, August 28. Charles Lewis Johnson (40), a mechanic, was hit by a tram-car when crossing the street. He is in hospital and his condition is. critical. AN INFANT’S DEATH. Auckland, August 28. The coroner’s inquest opened this morning on the body of the female child of Daisy Ireland, aged 16, which .vas born on a motor-launch at Whau Creek. Medical evidence was that the child died of asphyxiation and might have lived if properly attended. There was nothing to indicate the cause of death. Cecil N. Williams in evidence admitted he was father of the child. The coroner returned a verdict of death from asphyyia due to want of attention. PRISONER HANGS HIMSELF. Auckland, August 28. Louie Rolland, under remand on charges of indecent assault on a boy, hanged himself in the police cell at Morrinsville. He made a rope out of a blanket, fastened it to a ventilator, tied it round his neck and jumped off the top of a rack of shelves. ' He is about 60 years of age and served in the French army.
