MAGICIAN NICKOLA IN TROUBLE. FINED BY MAGISTRATE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 26. As the result of an “execution” performance in Queen Street on Monday, the magician Nickola was charged at the Police Court, before Mr. Poynton, S.M., with having caused an obstruction of traffic. For the defence, Mr. Herman.said that it had not been anticipated that anything like such a crowd would assemble. The scaffolding had been passed by the inspector, so that there was no objection on thatscore. A feature of the performance wns its rapidity, the whole thing being a mat/jiof minutes. Mr. Mackay, for the prosecution, replied that trams had lost over 50 miles of traffic, the period being a busy one, as people were going home to lunch. The service had been disorganised to give defendant an advertisement. The magistrate said that there was no doubt of the obstruction. Defendant had received a very fine advertisement, and he was fined £5 and cost?.
