EOMONT-WANGANUI HUNT. STRAY LAD WINS CUP. A GOOD DAY’S SPORT. The Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Chib’s steeplechase meeting was held on the Hawera racecourse on Saturday in perfect weather, the attendance, in spite of the postponement of the meeting from Wednesday, being fair. On the whole the races provided good sport, the course and appointments being in good order. The fields in most cases were fair, and some exciting finishes were witnessed. The totalisator handled .69950. as against £14,233 last year, a drop of £4283. Good work was done by the officials. Mr. H. Coyle's handicaps made the likely winners difficult to find, while Mr. C. H. Washer, as judge, gave decisions which were correct and popularly received. Mr. A. Morse, as starter, got the fields away satisfactorily and with little delay, and Mr. Percy Eastbury acted as clerk of the course. A pleasing programme of music was given by the Hawera Citizens’ Band, and the‘catering. which was in the hands of Dustin’s, Ltd., was excellent.
