THE VETERANS.
THE TARANAKI BRANCH. - ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Association of His Majesty’s Veterans was held at New Plymouth on Saturday afternoon. The chair was taken by Archdeacon F. E. Evans, who welcomed the veterans to the meeting. The balance-sheet showed that the year had commenced with a credit balance of £6 8s 6d. miscellaneous receipts in the way of subscriptions, etc., bringing the revenue up to £22 2s fid. Included in the expenditure of £IR Us 4d during the year was £6 placed in the savings bank, cash in hand at date amounting to £?> Ils 2d. The annual rennrt. was not before the meeting, but Mr. G. A. Adlam gave a short review of the operations of the rear. Since their last meeting ten of their comrades had died, reducing the number on the roll from 63 to 53. The next conference of the association will be held at Hastings in October. The chairman read a leter from Captain J. Black intimating that owing to failing eyesight he was reluctantly compelled to resign his office as secretary A resolution of sympathy was passed by the meeting, the chairman undertaking to convey this to Captain Black, and to express the gratitude of the branch for his past services. It was reported that the entertainment which it had been proposed to tender the committee of young citizens which had every year entertained the veterans on Waireka Day had been postponed on account of several being out of town at the time the function was to have been held, and the meeting decided to carry out the original arrangements on a date in October to be fixed by the committee. The following were elected officebearers for the ensuing year: Vicepresident. Archdeacon Evans; deputy vice-president. Mr. G. A. Adlam: secretary. Mr. Chas. Billing: treasurer. Mr. Adiam; auditor, Mr. W. D. Webster; committee. Messrs. G. A. Adlam. J. Andrews. C. Billing. T. Williams, Lister, J. Kenyon, and H. Newlands. On the motion of Mr. Adlam a vote of thanks was accorded ATr. W. B. Davis for acting as secretary, and a vote of thanks to the chair closed the meetinfi.
Hurford Road School. The Fourth Battalion Band rendered a short programme of music after the conclusion of the service. The ladies of the district served a very enjoyable afternoon tea in the Omata Hall, their hospitality being much appreciated.
