LAWN TENNIS.
PLAY IN AMERICA. By TeHegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, August 25. While Tilden and Richards were opposing Johnston and Johnston, in the next court Patterson and Wood were playing Niles and Borotra for the right to enter the final of the national doubles championship, and beat their opponents. 6—l, 7—5, 6—o. The Australians played finished tennis, taking game after game with ease. Niles and Borotra were very unsteady for a while, but improved as the matah progressed. Although they yesterday defeated Williams and Washburn, last year’s American Davis Cup doubles team, in a sensational match, they appeared very weak to-day. Patterson’s speed was a dish they could not stomach. The Johnston and Johnston against Tilden and Richards match, which was scheduled to be played simultaneously with that of Patterson and Wood against Niles and Borotra, was postponed until after the latter contest. Received Aug. 26, 5.5 p.m. New York, Aug. 25. Tilden and Richards defeated Johnston and Johnston, B—6, B—7, 7 —5. The match between Tilden and Richards and Patterson and Wood, for the doubles championship, has been postponed, owing to r.ain, uj\til Monday.
