WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 25. The committee appointed by the Tikorangi Dairy Factory suppliers to make arrangements for an association have so far received an assurance of 350 cows to be tested. Mr. Ogle, of Bell Block, has offered to do the work, and in all probability he will be engaged. Word has been received from Mr. Deem, of the Agricultural Department, that he proposes paying a visit to Tikorangi on September 1 to give instructions on ensil-age-making. The local tennis club are making preparations for a long night dance, the net proceeds to go towards their pavilion fund. The grounds they acquired on the camo reserve have been changed front a wilderness into a beauty spot, and it is hoped that the club will be well supported.
Mrs. Lund has received a communication from H.R.H. Princess Mary (Viscountess Lascelles), Lady Jellicoe, and the secretary of the Red Cross, Wellington, relating to the gift subscribed for by V.A.D. members from all over the Empire, including those of the district. The wedding present the form of a diamond and emerald tiara, towards which the New Zealand subscriptions totalled £llll 10s. The Princess expresses her gratefulness for the good wishes of the service, to which she■' is proud to belong. The town was invaded on Thursday, by natives from all over the district, the de? casion being a football match between Hawera and local Maoris. A dance was held in the evening and carried on until daylight.
