MAIN TRUNK SLIPS.

ENGINE EEAVES THE KAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Associativa. Taihape, August 23. Owing to heavy rain after a long period of frosty weather slips have occurred on the Main Trunk line, causing a stoppage of traffic. On Tuesday afternoon a slip between Utiku and Mangaweka caused the 5.20 evening train from Marton to be delayed half an hour. A more serious slip occurred this morning a mile south of the Hihitahi, entirely blocking all through traffic to Auckland. The train arriving at Taihape at 4 a.m. from Ohakune ran into the slip and the engine left the rails, but no other damage was observable. The slip is being rapidly removed and the Auckland express, due at Taihape at 6.30 a.m., is expected to get through to Taihape about 1 p.m. If the rain continues other slips are likely to occur.
