WORK AND WAGES.

LABOR PREPARES FOR TUSSLE, ORGANISING IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 23, 11.10 p.m. Sydney, August 23. A conference of trades union delegates adopted a resolution that the conference was opposed solidly to any reduction in wages and lengthening of hours, and that the conference elect a State council to work in conjunction with the Australian Coi#icil of Action, and draft definite proposals to place before the Council of Action as a policy for the Australian trades union movement. The conference then prooceeded to draw up a policy for carrying out its campaign, in which it was stated that only a fighting policy will now avail workers in the struggle looming ahead. It was a vital necessity that the workers should keep their hands untied and hold themselves in readiness to use any weapon that is or has been used against the workers by the employers. They need not go beyond that. The statement concludes: “Any union which breaks away from the united front is committing an act of black treachery to its fellow unions. There must be no ‘Black Friday’ in Australia, and no stone must be left unturned to ensure a united front and a common policy against the employers’ attack on the hours and wages of workers.” —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
