IF PROHIBITION COMES.
THE.WSS OF REVENUE. THE PREMIER’S INTENTIONS, (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. During the debate on the Financial Statement, Mr. R. McCallum (Wairau) took the Prime Minister to task for having shown a lack of courage in the Budget. He said that Mr. Massey had failed to state what the Government proposed to do if prohibition was carried at the next poll. The country was entitled to know how it waa intended to make up the revenue that would, be lost in that event. The carrying of prohibition, he said, would mean that for nine months of the financial year 1923-24 the Government would have to do without the revenue normally drawn from the liquor traffic, and he asked how was that revenue to be replaced. Mr. Massey replied that if prohibition was carried he would convene Parliament straight away to consider the situation.
