An appeal was recently made to the various sports associations of the Dominion to devote the proceeds of one day’s play to charity, and in response to this the New Zealand Hockey Association communicated with all affiliated associations urging them to devote the proceeds of some match, to be held on or about August 31. to this purpose. The South Taranaki Association having taken no action the management committee of the Eltham Hockey Club decided to make some effort to comply with the request, and after some discussion it was resolved to hold a. flve-a-side tournament at Taumata Park on August 31, the proceeds of which will be handed over to some charitable object. The various clubs in the association have been advised of the proposal, which is meeting with gratifying support. Already some eight teams have signified their intention to compete, sufficient to provide some very interesting matches. The Eltham Club has agreed to donate five caps for presentation to the numbers of the suaaeMful team.—Argus,.
