IRISH WARFARE.
OPEN CONFLICTS OVER. REBELS BECOME BANDITS. GUERILLA TACTICS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 22, 8.10 p.m. London, August 21. All semblance of open warfare between the Free State troops and rebels has ended. From Donegal to Cork, every city and important town ship is in .the hands of the Government. The rebels are living lives of bandits, conducting guerilla warfare while lying in ambush. Art. O’Brien, head of the Self-Determina-tion League, who was arrested in Dublin three weeks ago while attending a funeral, has been released.
FUNDS FOR THE REBELS. MONEY RAISED IN AMERICA. SOUGHT BY FREE STATE. Received Aug. 22, 10.10 p.m. New York, Aug. 21. Timothy Smiddy, representing Mr. Michael Collins, obtained a Supreme Court, injunction restraining the de Valera faction from obtaining 2,300,000 dollars, representing moneys obtained from Irish sympathisers in the United States on bonds issued by the Irish Republic. Smiddy contended the Irish Free State is a free Ireland, for which Irishmen have been fighting, and it is entitled to the funds, although the latter were raised on bonds of the republic. He asserted that if de Valera obtained the funds a further rebellion against the present Irish Government wo”ld result and needless bloodshed would continue. The view of the majority of the people in Ireland favors the English treaty. The legal possession of the funds is invested in three trustees, de Valera, Fogarty and O’Mara. Fogarty, the Mayor of Limerick, alone is an adherent of the Irish Free State. The settlement of the dispute will be submitted to the local courts. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
