ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY’S. “THE FOX” AND “A WOMAN OF PLEASURE.” A monster double feature bill is showing at Everybody’s to-night and to-mor-row, including Harry Carey in the big Western super-feature “The Fox” and Blanche Sweet in a 7-part drama, “A Woman of Pleasure.” In “The Fox” there has been pictured scenery never before caught by the motion picture camera, such as the Painted Rocks, Cathedral Butte and the burning heart of the great Mojave Desert. It shows a story of action, thrills, suspense, heartinterest, mystery, laughter, tears, triumph —and, overshadowing all of these, the all-powerful appeal of the romantic West—an appeal that is answered in the heart of every man, woman, and. child. Its thousand and one thrills keep the audience in a state of exciting suspense from opening title to final fader out. It is in every way what it has been classed, “A Western Master-piece.”' Blanche Sweet is more beautiful and appealing than ever as the star of “A Woman of Pleasure.” The story centres about a girl who marries for money and then falls in love with her husband’s employee. The action shifts from England to British South Africa, where the husband’s mines are endangered by a Zulu uprising. These Zulu scenes are remarkably well staged. There is a battle between the Zulus armed with spears and the British armed vrith ’rifles. A huge observation balloon plays a thrilling part in the rescue. The heroine is held captive, the hero sacrifices his life for hers—almost —and the villain is satisfactorily disposed of. The supporting cast includes Wes. Barry, Wheeler Oakman and others of equal fame. There will be a special matinee screening of “The Fox” this afternoon, commencing at 3.30. School children will be admitted for sixpence and adults at Is Gd and Is. The prices at the evening session are 2s and la 6d.

THE PEOPLE’S. LAST NIGHT OF “IRON TO GOLD.” To-night will see the final screening at The People’s of the Fox double star programme, “Iron to Gold,” starring Dustin Farnum and “A Woman There Was,” starring Theda Bara. “Iron to Gold” shows Dustin Farnum in a character admirably suited to his special abilities as a virile out-door star. In this picture he is cast as a Western outlaw, who in the end is able to prove his innocence. Theda Bara is also happily cast in “A Woman There Was,” which is a swift-moving dramatic story of life in the South Sea Islands. “THE BIRTH OF NEW ZEALAND.” It is some considerable time since a proposed screening of a motion picture has aroused the interest that is being manifested in the production to-morrow at The People’s of “The Birth of New Zealand,” a film dealing with the early history of the Dominion. This is the first big photo-play made in New Zealand, and it has been acclaimed by critics as a huge success, both from the point of view of entertainment and education. “The noteworthy incidents contained in the authentic records.” states one writer, “are faithfully reproduced as part of a story which, at the opening scene, grips the onlooker with an intensity that is maintained until the last view is screened, when he again comes back to Mother Earth and finds himself in an upholstered seat, and not as a unit in that vast drama played on the shores of God’s Own Country ’way back in the early ’6o’s. The acting is of a high standard: so. therefore, distinction would be invidious, but an especial word of praise is due to the Maori warriors who re-enact the battle scenes. Their work is « fin? study, and comes as a refreshing surprise.” Tn addition to “The Birth of New Zealand.” there will be shown a high-class Universal five-reel comedy “Don’t Get Personal,” a dazzling, zippy, sparkling, mile-a-minute comedy, starring bewitching Marie Prevost. The night prices are, D.C. 2s, and stalls Is Gd. and box plans ere now open at Collier’s. Special school matinees are being arranged by the management.

EMPIRE THEATRE. MAID OF THE MOUNTAINS. There are many factors which go towards the success of “The Maid of The Mountains,” which is to be staged at the Empire Theatre on Saturday end Monday next. A thrilling story of love and adventure emanating from the bandits’ retreat in the mountains, beautiful scenic effects, handsome costumes, novel dancing, and above all, a brilliant musical score. The average musical comedy possesses one or two musical successes. Tn the “Maid of The Mountains” every number will be popular after the production here. The pride of place will probably be given to “My Life is Love.” “A Paradise for Two,” “Life for To-day.” "“A Batchelor Gey,” “When You’re in Love,” “Love will Find a Way.” and “Farewell.” Miss Florence Lusk (Teresa) and Mr. Alexander Wright (Beppo) are responsible for most of the solo work, and the two English comedians, Mr. Percy Clifton and Mr. Phil. Neustead, as General Malma and Tonio, are responsible for the comedy. Altogether, a rare treat is in store for local play-goers. Box plans open at Collier’s to-morrow morning at 9.a.m.
