The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Kaikoura arrived at New Plymouth from Liverpool, via ports, at 10 o’clock yesterday morning, being boarded by the harbormaster at 10.15 and brought alongside at 11 a.m. The vessel brought a direct English cargo amounting to 1553 tons for discharge at this port, and on discharging this she will load 23,000 carcases from the Smart Road works and 8000 from Messrs. Borthwick’s works at Waitara. A ranall quantity of general cargo will also be loaded.
The Kaikoura is a vessel of 8659 tons gross, her length is 475 feet, whilst her draught on entering port yesterday morning was 15 feet forward and 22 feet aft. The copimander is Captain J. Downton. who has associated with him the following officers: Chief, Mr. F. Falconer; second. Mr. R. Newman; third, Mr. H. Emmett; fourth. Mr. G. Hardgreaves; surgeon, Dr. R. Ron Innis; chief steward, Mr. J. Mackins; chief engineer, Mr. W. Cowell; second, Mr. N. - Matthews; third, Mr. J. Newlek; fourth, Mr. C. Phillips; fifth, Mr. J. Hunter; sixth, Mr. D. Currie; chief refrigerating engineer, Mr. A. Johnson ; second. Mr. W. Hill. The vessel will probably be in port till the beginning of next week. KAITUNA ARRIVES. The Kaituna arrived at New Plymouth with about 1500 tons of coal from Newcastle at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. She was boarded by the port health officer and granted pratique, but will not berth until 6.30 this morning. A fine weather trip was experienced across the Tasman, westerly winds prevailing until yesterday. JOHN WITH CARGO. The steamer John is expected at New Plymouth about 8 o’clock this morning from Lyttelton and Wellington. She is bringing about 150 tons of general cargo and 1400 cases of benzine. She will sail for'Wellington, Timaru and Lyttelton lat>e to-day. CEMENT CARGO. The Kurow (2625 tons) is announced to load a cement cargo for New Plymouth at Portland, near Whangarei, leaving the northern port on August 29, and arriving here a few days later. THE RARAWA. Passengers and 100 >tons of general cargo were brought from. Onehunga by the Rarawa yesterday morning. The vessel sailed north again TOst evening. KAMO TO-MORROW. The Kamo was to leave Lyttelton at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon for Wellington an l New Plymouth, being due here early to-morrow morning with about 700 tons of general cargo. OVERSEAS MOVEMENTS.
