THE TRAMS.
THE PAST MONTH’S REVENUE. TRAFFIC IMPROVING. Reporting on the working of the New Plymouth tramways during Jjily the tramways engineer says:— “The revenue for the month compared with the corresponding month of last year shows a decrease of £67 9s 7d and 6333 passengers. This, howevet, is an improvement as against the results of the last four weeks working and the traffic generally appears to be improving slightly, although in my opinion any marked improvement cannot be looked for until October or September next. The returns for the month are: Main route.—Mileage run, 15,659; passengers carried, 127,111; fares, £1377 13s 9d. Morley Street-Strandon route. —2,549; 11,933; £B7 18s 7d. Combined routes.—lB,2oB; 139.044; £1465 12s 4d. “The work in connection with the alteration of small cars is progressing satisfactorily. The second car is all but finished, the varnishing being all that is necessary to complete. The third car is well in hand and. should be completed during the month. All other matters are proceeding satisfactorily and require no special comments. The shelter-shed at Belt Road is now completed and the contractors have made a very good job of it.” LAST WEEK'S TRAFFIC. The revenue collected on the New Plymouth tramways again showed a decrease last week when compared with the corresponding week of last year, £33 10s 9d less being collected than during the 1921 period. Owing to the nature of the day Sunday’s traffic was very small and is possibly the smallest on record, 878 passengers being carried as against 2542 ( £32 6s 2d) last year. The total number of passengers and the revenue collected last year was: Passengers 32,508, revenue £342 13s 9d. The details of last week’s traffic are as follow:
