STABBING AFFRAY.
TWO MEN INJURED. SUDDEN ASSAULT ALLEGED By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Gisborne, Last Night. As a result of stabbing injuries, two men were admitted to the Cook Hospital on Saturday. The affair happened at Matawhero, where George Monkhouse, 68 years of age, a single man, was living with William Campbell, about 40 years of age and married. Campbell is manager of Mr. F. Hall’s station, and Monkhouse was staying there till he got a job. It is alleged that about nine o’clock on Saturday night Monkhouse returned home, and after muttering for some time, sprang at Campbell and stabbed the latter three times in the back. He then turned the knife, which had a blade two and a-half inches long, into his own abdomen. Campbell’s wife went to her husband’s aid, and one child rushed outside scream* ing. A Chinese employee secured Monk> house and sent for the police. The injured men passed a satisfactory night.
