NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. Conditions overhead were perfect for the first qualifying round for the New Plymouth championships (senior and junior) on Saturday, but a wet course and slow greens taxed the skill of the players. Mrs. Mac Diarmid, 4 and 3; Miss Fookes lost to Mrs. Hill, 9 and 7. To-morrow there will be a bogey match tor those nut engaged in the championship, players to choose their partners. PLAY IN AMERICA Received Aug. 20, 5.5 p.m. New York, August 18. At Hulton, Pennsylvania, Sarazen won the United States professional golf championship, defeating Emmett (a French player) 4 UP and 3.
