PERSONAL.

Mr. A. C. Milne, for many years a very well-known farmer in South Taranaki, and who left for the Waikato about ten years ago, died at Hamilton on Tuesday last. Captain Keatley is at present replacing Captain Bark on the Rarawa, the latter having been temporarily transferred to the Manaia, which is running in the Auckland-WTiangarei service.

Mr. John Dobson, the music master at the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, has passed the licentiate examination under the associated board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. Mr. S. E. McGregor, of the staff of the New Plymouth Department of Labor., has received notice of transfer to Christchurch, and leaves by Tuesday’s express. During his stay in New Plymouth he has been a member of the Old Bqys’ football team. Dr. Arnold Gilray.. late of Napier Hospital, is journeying by the Port Albany, en route to England to further pursue his medical studies. Before his departure the patiente presented Dr. Gilray with an illuminated address signed by the senior patient in each ward. The death took place on Thursday morning, after a short illness, of Mr. John Butler, one of the oldest and most respected settlers of Toko. The deceased, who was a native of Ireland, and 69 years of age, had been farming at Toko for over 30 years. He took a block of land up when in its virgin state, and by hard work, became a successful farmer, retiring a few years ago. The deceased, who was well known for his quiet, consistent character, was ever ready to help any cause, although he took no public office. He is survived by a widow and a family of tw« * O ns and two daughters, namely, Misses Nora and Nelly Butler, and John and James> all of Toko.—Post.
