MONEY ON MORTGAGE.

INCREASE DURING YEAR. The annual report of the Land Transfer and Deeds Registration Department givdh the total of the general fees received under the Land Transfer Act for the year ending March 31, 1922, at £04,201 9/1, and the assurance fees at £2601 10/7. For the year 1920-21, the corresponding figures were £91,137 14/4 and £2784 13/6 respectively. The amount of money remaining on mortgage at March 31, 1921, was £192,838,993. The amount secured by mortgage during the year 1921-22 was £28,811/115, and the amount paid off during the same period £10,824,276, leaving the amount remaining secured by mortgage at March 31, 1922, at £210,826,032. The amounts on mortgage in the various distracts then were: Auckland £50,466,892, Wellington £48,891,7-58, Canterbury £35,386,764, and Otago and Southland £21,829,233.
