Tn fact, owing to a remarkably small rainfall during July and August, the racing tracks are much better than usually experienced in Marton at this time of the year. Mr. Percy Johnson has had the misfortune to lose his well-known stallion Hallowmas. The horse was playing around in a paddock and by some means broke a leg. which necessitated its being destroyed. Hallowmas has left some good stock, and his loss is particularly unfortunate to Mr. Johnson, who had just about concluded negotiations for his purchase by a Wanganui sportsman.
