ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY’S. Alice Calhoun, the charming Vitagraph star will be seen in her latest picture, “The Matrimonial Web,” for tonight only at Everybody’s. In the story Miss Calhoun has the role of the daughter of a revenue officer who has charge of running down a band of smugglers. The father fails in his task, but his daughter, in order to save the position for the man, attempts to round up the band. In order to get the clue she mixes with the frequenters of an underworld dive and poses as a member of a band of tools and succeeds in hoodwinking frequenters of the resort. She runs into an adventure which leads het'to the headquarters of the smuggling band and also wins for her a husband. The action is intensely dramatic and Miss Calhoun handles every scene in a manner that does her credit and puts a realism into the production. THE PEOPLE’S. “PLAYING WITH FIRE.” Gladys Walton, seen in previous Universal flapper comedy successes—“ Short Skirts,” “Pink Tights” and “The Man Tamer”—is starred in the five-reel feature, “Playing With Fire,” at ’ the ’ People’s to-night. It is the story of a girl who worked in a music shop “poundin’ out jazz.” She was not satisfied with the social circle in which she was obliged to move, so she migrated to a higher social sphere, and complications naturally followed. Her desire to mix in Asterbilt circles brings her into many amusing escapades, which furnish the director with an opportunity to reveal something of the inner life of high society at famous American water-places. Her' ambition, to secure a husband from among the Four Hundred, succeeds at last, but, when the numbers are up, the youth, desirable in every respect, turns out to be a plumber. Supporting films include two-reel comedy and International News. The prices remain as usual.
