KAPONGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Last week we were favored with a visit from Mr. G. W. Hayward, of Eltham, whp gave a semi-religious address in the Town Hall to a representative audience. Mr. Hayward received a very attentive hearlng.and answered a number of questions at the end of his address. We regret to have to report the serious in-, disposition- of 1 Mr. R. T. B. Mellow, of Manaia Road. Mr. Mfellow Is a very old and respected resident, and his many friends wish him a speeds’ recovery. Politics are again in the air, and we notice that Mr. D. L. Astbury has been selected to carry the Liberal colors at the forthcoming election. Mr. Astbury always put plenty of vim into his campaign, and it is expected that he will put up a great fight. A meeting of the representative Jersey.-breed-ers of the district was held on Tuesday evening, and a good number were _ present. It was decided to hold the annual pedigree sale in Messrs. Newton King, Ltd.’s yards. The usual marquee is to be provided, sale to commence at 10.30 a.m. Entries' are to close on August 26, and a considerable number were handed in at the meeting. The beautiful spring weather we have been experiencing lately has had a marked effect on the pastures, and is reflected in the milk leceipts at our local factory. Farmers are now getting into the thick of It, and everything points to a very fair season. One speaker at a meeting held lately had a beautiful remedy to counter-balance the high cost of living. For the benefit of News’ readers, we give it, but do not guarantee any results. Briefly it is this: “Do not pay your accounts.” . Owing to his illness, Mr. R. T. B. Mellow | is forced to dispose of his herd of pedigree I Friesian cattle. Mr. Mellow has spent years of hard work, and a large sum of money, in I building up his herd to its present high stand- r ard, and it seems a pity to see such a fine herd disperse. The sale Is to be held on August 28, at Kaponga.
