THE ESTIMATES.
PRUNED VERY CLOSELY. NO SPECIAL EXPENDITURE. WAR MEMORIAL DROPPED (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The Estimates brought down with the Budget to-night bear evidence of having been pruned very closely. There are few items of interest outside the regular departmental votes. The unexpended vote of £lOO,OOO for a national war memorial has not been renewed, and many smaller votes have suffered a similar fate. The vot°s include the following ■ Aviation, including refresher courses for 50 pilots, £3906. Subsidy to aviation companies, £3OOO. Destruction of rabbits on Crown lands, £10,000; on native lands, £7500. Destruction of the kea, £l5OO. New Zealand’s share of the League of Nations’ secretariat expenses, £6OOO. Artificial limb manufacture for soldiers, £9948. New Zealand’s share of war graves expenses, £35,000. Battlefield memorials, £28,400. Prisoners’ dependants, £5OOO. Executioner’s fee, £25.
