MYSTERY OF ATTACK.
WOUNDING OF A MAJOR. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 15, 1.15 a.m. London, August 13. An element of mystery eurrounde the wounding of Major Neilson, who is still in hospital suffering from wounds to the arm and chest. The first reports were obtained from the police at the hospital and Neilson has since retold the story about being attacked by Sinn Fein gunmen to a reporter, stating he was attacked by three men and bound hand and foot, while the letters “IjR.A.” were scratched with a penknife on his chest. He was then unbound and the men fired twice, one bullet lodging in his arm.
The Devon oonetabulary report that, the attack is not thought to be the work of the 1.-R.A. and not much attention must be attached to Neilson’s statement. The Home Office is making further enquiries. It is understood Neilson has been in ill-health for some time.
