AN AIR WONDER.
AIRPLANES WITHOUT ENGINES. SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTS. sy Awn.-—OopyrlgßS. Received Aug. 13, 5.5 p.m. Paris, August 12. At a motorless aviation congress at Clermont, several enginelesa aeroplanes rwere submitted, although the duration .of the successful flight of these machines did not exceed two minutes, being less than in the recent experiment with engineless machines in Germany. The greatest interest has been aroused in the subject, as it is bringing aviation more into line with the natural flight of birds; also lessening the cost and risk of aviation. It is expected that a great proportion of the power required for a flight will be obtained in future from the force of the wind and that greater safety will be acquired, because the equilibrium will be natural and au-* tomatic. —Aus.-N.Z.
