THE LAND TAX.
BILL PASSED BY HOUSE. By Telegraph.,—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The House to-night went into committee on the Land Tax 1 (annual) Bill. In the schedule, Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton), on behalf of Mr. R. McCallum (Wahau), moved, an amendment which would have the effect of making the Government reduction in super tax apply to estates of a less unimproved value than £20.000. but not to apply to estates over that value. Mr. Massey resisted the amendment, and on a division it was defeated by 33 votes to 16, with ten pairs on either •side. The Bill was reported from committee without amendment, read a third time and passed.
