• MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of the West End School Committee was held this A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr. and Mrs.- Nisbitt, in the loss they had sustained through the death of their daughter, a pupil of the school. The headmaster reported that for the four weeks ending August 4, 20 pupils had been admitted and 18 withdrawn, leaving 646 on the roll. The average weekly roll had been 641.6, and the average .weekly attendance 579.1, a percentage of 90.2. *There was still disorganisation in the staff, but Mr. King (third assistant) and Miss Bullard had now taken up their positions, and with the arrival of Mrs. Russell (the new fourth assistant) next month the school would 'be permanently staffed for the first time this year. A number of objections to children taking part in toothbrush drill had been received from parents. The inspectors’ examination would take place from August 14 to August 18. The scholars of the. school had visited Stratford to play the local school teams football and hookey, and Mr. Rowntree, who had accompanied the teams, could not speak too highly of the ‘way in which they had been entertained •by'the staff and scholars of .tlie Stratford School. It was decided to for/ward a letter to Mr. Furrie, headmaster of the Stratford School, expressing the committee’s appreciation of, the hospitality accorded the children. Messrs. J. Hoskin and A. t.'ofcd reported that matters were well under way in connection with the concert they were organising. This will be held in during September.
