COMEDY IN A GAOL.
BOGUS OFFICIAL CREATES STIR. DECEPTION AT FIRST SUCCEEDS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 11, 8.30 p.m. Berlin, August 10. The latest imitator of the “cobbler of Koepenick” held up a black maria full of prisoners in a Berlin street, declaring himself a police inspector and showing a badge on his coat lapel. He got up beside the driver, and when he reached the prison the officials ‘there were equally deceived, obeying every order of the so-called inspector, who toured the cells. He ordered this prisoner a good meal and that one a better bed, and also that several others should be liberated immediately. He next ordered the governor of the prison out of bed and reprimanded him. severely for bad management. Before complete chaos was reached one of the gaolers closely scrutinised the badge and found it was a political propaganda badge, inscribed, “Remember Upper Silesia.” The man wap arrested, and proved to be a Berlin tailor. —Aus.-N.Z.
