CORRESPONDENCE
THE UNEMPLOYED.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Re the unemployed in Taranaki towns, I have spent over two pounds advertising for a man for general farm work with an inducement of a good home and good wages. How many replies did I get? Absolutely none. What is the reason when we hear so much of unemployment? Is working for a "cockle” beneath the dignity of most of the men, or is it because they won't go out In the country when they can get foolish town people to subscribe money for good jobs on relief work in towns? My advice to relief committees is to have only married men on their works, and give every single man a black billy, half a loaf of bread and some-tea, send him out in the country, and he will find plenty of work if he wants it.—l am, etc., • "A COCKIE." Auroa, August.
