NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. A sitting of the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, before Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M. . Thomas Drake was charged with making an alteration to a water service connected with the watermain without having obtained the consent of the engineer. Reginald Day, inspector, said, the case was brought as a warning to others. In some cases it was allowable to Connect up with a neighbor’s pipe if the borough’s consent was first obtained. Such permission had not been sought in this case. . Defendant was fined 10M (costs 7s). Ralph Wright was charged on a similar breach of the by-laws and was similarly dealt with. Charles Johnston pleaded guilty to a charge of negligently driving a motor lorry along the .South Road on July 17. Senior-Sergeant MeCrorie said defendant nearly collided with a tram-car, and the motorman had to use his emergency brake. A fine of £1 (costs 15s) was inflicted. For speeding along Devon Street in a motor car. Robert J. Cuming was fined £2 10s (costs 15s). Charles Old. on a charge of driving a spring cart along the footpath ’in Leach Street, pleaded guilty. He’explained he drew up beside a fence to throw off a load of wood. He was fined £1 (costs 7s). Clolworthy. a claim for £l4 4s, debtor was ordered to pay the amount of the debt forthwith, in default 14 days’, imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended if debtor pay £7 10s on or before August 24. and the balance on or before September 24. 1
