THE AMERICAN TEAM SELECTION SPRINGS A SURPRISE. Received August 10, 5.5 p.m. New York, August 9. It is aniiounced that the American Davis Cup team will consist of Tilden, Johnston, Williams and Richards. Williams will be captain. The choice of Richards over Washbum came as a surprise. Since the recent double tests between Tilden and Richards and Washburn and Williams each has won a match, and while Richards is a sensational young player, Washburn has the better knowledge of Davie Cup conditions. —Aus.-N.Z.
