WRECK OF A CRUISER.
SIX OF THE CREW OROWNED. ALL THE OTHERS SAVED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Halifax, Auguet 9. A Cape Race wirelees message, reports that the British cruiser Raleigh has been totally wrecked on the rocks iq the Bellisle Straits. Four of the cr&Mj were saved. ■Received August 10, 8.45 p.m. Ottawa, August 9. The Navy Department’s reports in* dicate that six members of the Raleigh’s crew were lost and the rest saved, in* eluding Admiral Packenham. CRUISER BADLY AGROUND. A DANGEROUS POSITION. Received August 10, 11.30 p.m. f London, August 9. The Admiralty announces that thd Raleigh is badly aground a quarter of a] mile west of Point Amour, and is now in a dangerous position. Thq crew has landed and is being transported to Halifax. It is feared four men have lost their lives. - [The Strait of Bellisle is a channel between Newfoundland and the coast of Labrador. The Raleigh was a new vessel of 9750 tons, built in 1920. Shs % had a speed of 30 knots and carried seven 7.5 in. guns. She was the biggest cruiser on the North American station.]
