The United . States gave an assurance that the whole circumstances will bp investigated, and proper representations have been made on the matter to the Governor of Illinois, POWERFUL WIRELESS STATION. Paris, August 7. The new wireless station at St. Assise, which will be by far the most powerful in the world, and from which messages will be heard ail over the tvorld, has been formally opened. The new station, which is near Melun, has already communicated with Argentina and China, and will be capable of sending out a million words daily. THE SWATOW TYPHOON. Hongkong, August 7. The casualties in the Swatow typhoon are now estimated at 10,000. CHINESE TOWN LOOTED. Pekin, August 7. Mutinous troops ransacked Kiukiang. Two hundred shops were looted and destroyed. The damage amounts to three million dollars. SOCIALISING HOSPITALS. London, August 7. The conference of Social Democrats passed a resolution that the regrettable financial position of hospitals demonstrated the failure of the voluntary system, and urging the Labor Party to press for the immediate socialisation of hospitals.
