ABORTIVE WAGES CONFERENCE. By Telegraph,—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 8. 9.30 p.m. Sydney, August 8. The conference between the Broken Hill Proprietary and the Newcastle steel-workers’ management and employees in connection with the reduction of wages, proved abortive, the men refusing to agree to any scheme which does not provide for a refund when the works show a profit. The conference was the result of the management’s application to the Arbitration Court for a reduction of wages.
