BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. Br Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 8. The conference of / delegates of the New Zealand Boxing Association appointed a subcommittee consisting of Messrs. Dawson, Greenhough, Kilmartin «nd Robson to report on the best method of dealing with branches of the council; also in respect to New Zealand’s position in connection with the Australasian championships. The committee was also authorised to bring down proposals for the better carrying out of North and South«championships. The rules were altered to provide that ,the first prize in an amateur event shall not be of greater value than £5 5s for three three-minute rounds, or £7 7s for six threeminute rounds, £3 3s for three two-minute rounds, or £5 5s for six two-minute rounds. The New Zealand championships for next year were fixed to take place at Dunedin. The secretary, Mr. Atack, reported that £359 had. been received by the council from license fees, and the percentages and the credit balance amounted to £284. THE DISAPPEARING TRICK. Nelson, August 8. At the Boxing Association's championship meeting the principal event was to have been a six-round bout between Spiers (Nelson) and Griffin (Otago), but the latter disappeared before th© contest, giving no explanation to the (association. TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association met last night. Present: Messrs. W. Graham (in the chair), M. J. Stagpool, R. Barlow, W. N. Stephenson, F. J. Eggleton, A. Baker, G. E. Jago, W. Richards, N. B. Howell, R. Inch, R. Paul, W. Yardley, C. Grainger, J. Garcia, and C. H. Wynward (secretary). Messrs. W. N. Stephenson and N. B. Howell reported that matters in connection with the hall arrangements and the seating accommodation for the big bout between Whitaker and Pooley on Saturday night, in the Coronation Hall, were now completed and provision had been made so that every one would get a full view of the contests. The other sub-com-mittees also reported that matters were well forward, and indications pointed to there being a record attendance. In order to prevent congestion at the door on .Saturday evening, it was decided to arrange for tickets to be sold during Saturday in town. All the amateurs have notified that they will be in attendance and are getting into good form. Competition, therefore, should be very keen for the handsome gold medals which have been donated for the various bouts by Messrs. W. Graham, E. Whittle, A. E. Horne, E. Heel, R. Barlow, and F. Faber. 1 A letter was received from the president (Mr. C. H. Weston), enclosing a cheque for £2 2s as a donation to the association. It was decided that scholars’ tickets will only be sold at the secretary’s office, and will not be on sale at the doors.
