The subject was dealt with in a comprehensive manner, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia being taken .as the chief example for State banking and the Bank of New Zealand standing the major part of the criticism as the -leading factor in the present system of backing in New Zealand. The Bank of New Zealand was stoutly championed by Mr. McAllister and his supporters.
