WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TJie seaside and surf-bathing society are seeking to obtain £l5 of the local “Poppy Day” money, to be subsidised with a like amount, for work to be done to the beach track, the idea being to give employment to married soldiers. Mr. R. Gribbon, writing to a Waitara friend, states that he is leaving England for New Zealand by the Corinthic on August 10. Mr. Gribbon says that he and his wife have just returned from an interesting tour of Trance, Germany, Switzerland, Austrian Tyrol and Holland. They enjoyed it immensely. Mr- Jno. Foreman, of Tikorangi, has sold his farm and is taking up his residence in Waitara. He has bought Mr. N. Heppell’s property. Mr. C. Rumball, junr., of Moerangi, met with a severe accident whilst falling bush on Mr. P. Gaustad’s farm at Urenui. A tree shoot, flying back, struck him on the , arm, face and leg, breaking the leg below the knee. The injured man had to be carried four miles to the road, where a car was in waiting to convey him to the hospital. Miss McCarthy, who has been postmistress at Urenui, has left to take up duties at New Plymouth. Mr. Toms, of Hawera, is her successor.
Some little time ago the Waitara School Committee decided to erect an honor board containing the names of all old boys who had served in the war.
