BOXING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. NEXT WEEK’S TOURNAMENT. At the last meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association the match committee reported that the six special amateur bouts for the tournament on August 12 had been finally arranged as follows: — Childs has to meet Collins in the fly-weight, Dudding v. Fletcher in the bantam weight, Miller v. Rook in the welter-weight. Loveridge v. Lumsden (light), McQuire v. E. Webber (heavy-weight). Mills (Riverlea) v. P. Webber (New Plymouth) heavy-weight. It was decided to admit schoolboys and boys under the age of 16 years to the tournament at 2s 9d including tax, and that hoys’ tickets be obtainable at the secretary’s office not later than Friday, August 11, up to 5 p.m. Advice received from Auckland states that Albert Pooley is in great form, and should put up the fight of his life with Cyril Whittaker on August 12. Quite a number of Auckland sports intend making the trip. Whittaker is also in hard training and looks in the pink of condition. Ample seating accommodation will be provided, and a splendid evening’s amusement is assured. The box plan is now open at Collier’s. Patrons wishing to reserve seats are advised to do so early.
