At the international chess matches, on the first day Capablanca beat Euwe (Holland) at the 38th move) replying to Ruy Lopez opening with the &teinwltz Defence. The game Watson (Australia) v. Yates (Great Britain) is unfinished. Received Aug. 2, 5.5 p.m. London, August 1. Alechin beat Watson at the 27th move. Watson’s unfinished game with Yates will be resumed to-morrow. In his game with Alechin, he opened with queen’s pawn and incautiously tried for a king's side attack, which was easily repulsed. Alechin strongly counter-attacked and drove the Australian into an impossible position. Capablanca, who is in great form, beat Wahltueh.
