GENEARL ELECTIONS.
NAMES OF CANDIDATES. It is freely rumored (states the Stratford Post) that the official Liberal candidate to etand in' the Opposition interest against Mr. Ilawken for the Egmont seat will be Mr. Gerald Fitter®ld, the well-known Eltham chemist, or Mr. Fred Guy, farmer, of Matapu. A Foxton telegram states that at a largely attended 'and representative meeting of Government supporters in the Manawatu electorate on Monday, the candidature of Mr. Joseph Linklater was confirmed. It was decided to tender Mr. Edward Newman, M.P., a farewell banquet to which the Premier and members of Cabinet will be invited. Mr. P. A. De la Perrelle, chairman of the Southland Education Board and proprietor of the Winton Record, has decided to contest the Awarua seat in the Liberal interests (says an Invercargill telegram).
