SAWMILL ON FIRE.
OUTBREAK AT GREYMOUTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, July 31. An outbreak of fire occurred at Stratford and Blair’s sawmill in Gresson Street last night. The main building was gutted’, but the brigade accomplished a creditable save by extinguishing the fire before it had seriously damaged the machinery. The damage, estimated at £5OO, is covered by insurance. Details are unavailable. The yard was stacked with timber, but it escaped the flames. The manager, Mr. D. Tennent, said it was presumed the fire started as the result of boys occupying an upper room of the mill. It was the habit, he said, for a number of irresponsible youths to go up there to indulge in smoking and playing cards on Sunday afternoons and on several occasions they had been turned out.
