PUKEKURA PARK.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. A meeting of the Pukekura Park Board was held last night, the chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) occupying the chair. The chairman reported that he had interviewed the Mayor and Mr. W. ElSkinner and that the subsidy of £lOO would be forthcoming. They would therefore be able to continue the relief works at the park, on "which so far about £92 had been spent. The chairman also reported that the work on the fernery was now proceeding apace and it would be necessary to obtain ferns. Mr. Smith had had permission from the Mt. Egmont Reserve to remove ferns, and that permit may be still existent, but he thought it would be advisable to reapply for permission. It was decided to do this, and also to obtain some from the Ratapihipihi Board and arrange an exchange with the Huatoki Domain Briard. For the rhododendron dell some 70 distinct varieties had been obtained and these were now being planted, while it was reported that Mr. Newton King had donated a bed of Japanese irises. The board accorded a vote of thanks to Mr. The secretary stated that when the men had been' working in the lake he had obtained four pairs of gum-boots. These had been necessary and they had been obtained at cost price. It was decided to repair the turnstile ttt the Carrington Road entrance and the bridges at the waterfall. The members of the board discussed the ’possibility of improving the waterfall. and the chairman outlined a scheme of improvements which will be gone into later.
