PORT RETURNS.

INCREASE IN TRADE. The volume of trade handled at the port of New Plymouth during the four weekly period, June 24 to July 22, shows an increase of 1161 tons when compared with the corresponding period of last year. During the period named the imports totalled 7794 tons (last year 5612 tons) and exports 3179 tons (last year 4200 tons). Nineteen vessels, of an aggregate tonnage of 26,384, entered the port in the period compared with 16 vessels of a total tonnage of 36.053 last year. The larger tonnage in the 1921 period is accounted for by the fact that three liners visited the port, whilst in the fourweekly period recently ended only one, the Port Chalmers, called at New Plymouth.
