CUSTOMS RETURNS.

LAST MONTH’S FIGURES. The customs duties collected at New Plymouth last month amounted to £3762 8a sd, whilst the beer duty totalled £177 19s. Compared with July, 1921, when the customs duties amounted to £3855 6s 3d, last month’s figures show a decrease of £92 17s lOd, whilst in July of last year the beer duty amounted to £l6O, 15s 3d. On this comparison last month’s beer duty shows an increase of £l7 3s 9d. The above figures give a real comparison of the difference in business, as July. 1921, was the first month in which the Hawera dues were collected through Patea instead of through New Plymouth.
